So are Goonch Catfish really man eaters?

Goonch Catfish have backward facing teeth. These are predicator teeth and the following YouTube video shows that they can grow as big as a man.

A series of 3 fatal goonch catfish attacks in villages on the River Kali in India between 1998 and 2007 occurred. Biologists were able to verify the stories after capturing a live specimen.

Why eat humans? The creature had probably developed a taste for human flesh from burnt human cremation remains. Also eating off all the cremation remains allows these creatures to grow very massive.

So What is a Coconut Crab?

Coconut crabs are land living anthropoids – the largest in the word. They can weigh up to 10lbs. They have a leg span of up to 1m. Scientists believe that Coconut crabs have reached the limits that land dwelling animals with exoskeletons can achieve in our Earth’s atmosphere. There are much larger crabs in the sea because in this case their weight is supported by the water.

Coconut crabs live in costal forests of many Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean islands (e.g. Christmas, Seychelles, Cook ..). They emerge at night to forage on coconuts. They have very strong pincers which are able to crack coconuts, which enables them to retrieve the contents. They are scavengers by nature and will consume anything from dead animals to tortoise hatchlings.

Coconut crabs can climb trees to retrieve coconuts and also to escape the heat and predators but tend to pull their food into burrows which is safer while eating.
